On Monday, we had the honour of awarding Janet Atkins, from Chelsea Lawn Tennis Club, for her outstanding service and dedication to the club.
Janet has been an active and committed member since joining in October 2005, always ready to lend a hand and drive initiatives to assist the club. From organising and leading the annual sausage sizzle at the local Woolworths Store in Chelsea to coordinating the club’s garage sales, Janet has, in her time, raised vital funds for equipment maintenance and renewal at the club.
Janet’s refined skills in organisation shine through her leadership of the club’s annual Christmas luncheon. Whilst she not only plans the entire event, she also arranges donations from other members for Christmas hampers and coordinates the hamper raffles. This beloved tradition showcases her ability to bring all 70 of the club’s members together for a festive celebration.
Additionally, Janet helps coordinate the club’s Melbourne Cup Day celebrations, which include a luncheon, social tennis, and a cup sweep. She also organises the Easter raffle to raise funds for the Flying Doctor Service and spearheads the club’s involvement in the Seniors Festival by hosting a social tennis day each October.
On top of all her work in the social side of the tennis club, she also remains an active player and a dynamic presence at the club. She encourages other members to get involved through her warm and welcoming nature, making her a key part of the Chelsea Lawn Tennis Club community.
This Tennis Service Award recognises and celebrates Janet’s remarkable commitment and contribution to the sport of Tennis. Congratulations, Janet, and thank you for everything you do!
If you have someone at your club or association who has made an outstanding contribution to tennis, you can nominate them for a Tennis Service Award. The nomination form is available on our website.
