Twenty two Grand Slam Champion Todd Woodbridge will host next month’s prestigious Tennis Queensland Awards at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Woodbridge, one half of Australia’s most successful doubles partnership, will perform master of ceremony duties as the state’s unsung tennis heroes are honoured on October 27.

The deadline for nominations has been extended until Thursday September 13 as interest peaks in the sport because of home-grown breakthrough performances at the US Open.

Queensland’s Ashleigh Barty won her first Grand Slam title, when she partnered Coco Vandeweghe to win the women’s doubles crown. John Millman’s spectacular journey to the quarter finals inspired Millmania across Australia and Jason Kubler celebrated breaking into the top 100 by knocking out a seeded player in the first round.

Tennis Queensland’s CEO, Mark Handley said; “The achievements of all of our Queensland players at the US Open has created an incredible amount of excitement for the sport in our state. The Tennis Queensland Awards is a fantastic opportunity for us to celebrate those successes and remember where those professional journeys start out.

Our grassroots clubs and coaches are the backbone of Tennis at a professional level but most importantly at a participation level. We are very conscious that the clubs and all of the people that work and volunteer with them do the heavy lifting in our sport. Tennis Queensland is very excited to have Todd Woodbridge host this year’s event. It is going to be a great night”.

The Queensland Tennis Awards aims to highlight successes in the sport including club growth, coaching talent and volunteers who make it all happen.

Tickets will be released later this month to Tennis’s most glamourous night in Queensland.
