Scott Puodziunas and Ashling Sumner have out-played some of Australia’s best tennis stars to give themselves a shot at winning a wildcard into the mixed doubles event at the Australian Open 2016

The pair defeated Callum Puttergill and Sophie Letcher in the qualifying final on Saturday 4-1 4-2. Sumner and Puodziunas will travel to Melbourne Park to face off against other state and territory winners at the Win A Wildcard play-offs at Melbourne Park at the December Showdown.

The overall winning pair of A grade will receive a mixed doubles wildcard into the Australian Open 2016, classifying them as official Grand Slam players. The pair will all player perks including:

  • hotel accommodation
  • tournament accreditation
  • player transport and services
  • access to player areas

Mitch Garen and Kerry Ann Mouton took out the B grade competition and Nathan Waddell and Kate Maddock took our the C grade competition. They will play other state and territory winners in their grade at Melbourne Park in the second week of the Australian Open 2016.
