To wrap up the last weekend in August, Maleny Tennis Club located  in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland hosted two successful events to gain some tennis momentum heading into the month of September.

On Saturday the 30th of August, the club hosted an open day and welcomed all community members to their four court facility located on the Maleny Show Grounds.  Participants had the opportunity to try the Speed Serve machine to test the speed of their serve, a chance to play on the Hot Shots courts, a one point tournament  and take a shot on the prize court where prizes ranged from tennis ball key-chains, hats, flags, lolly’s, an inflatable swimming pool and an inflatable boat with oars.

Off the court, attendees were treated to a free sausage sizzle, jumping castle, show bags and a prize raffle.

To follow up a great Saturday, club coach Jani Kroyherr ran the inaugural Hinterland “Cross Tennis Championships.”  The concept of cross tennis comprises teams of three participants who compete against other teams in tennis challenges that are not always in line with traditional tennis formats.  Teams competed in an accuracy challenge, speed serve competition, one point tournament, triples, and 3 other team competitions.

Overall, 8 teams participated in the event with teams representing Maleny Tennis Club, Landsborough Tennis Club, Cooroy Tennis Club, Nambas Tennis Club and Bli Bli Tennis Club.  In the end, the Cooroy Coyotes came out victorious followed by the Bli Bli Ballers and the Landsborough Legends taking third place.
