In a move to help increase participation amongst entry level players as well as strengthen the link between their club, local schools & the community, Mooloolaba have worked tirelessly to create a weekly competition for primary school students.

The “Dwyer-Dickson School Shield Competition” ran over Term 1 and will be running again in Term 4. The competition is based on the MLC Tennis Hot Shots Program, with Red Ball & Green Ball levels.

The competition is supported by  local Sunshine Coast Divisional Councillor’s Tim Dwyer & Christian Dickson. 40 students from varying local Sunshine Coast primary schools competed in the first running of this program, played at the Mooloolaba Tennis Centre each Friday afternoon.

Venue Manager, Tristan Brown is proud of what the competition can do for tennis in the area, “Through the competition we aim to develop grassroots tennis & encourage participation amongst beginner to intermediate tennis players. As well as foster the link between local schools and our community tennis centre.

“The next competition will commence Term 4 & we hope to build on the number of players and schools. Aiming to increase from 40 – 60 players.”
