The Metropolitan Regional Tennis Team attended the Junior Development Series State Finals in Rockhampton on the 22nd– 23rd October 2011.

To receive this opportunity players had to compete in the Metropolitan Junior Development Series. The metropolitan players fielded teams in both boys and girls 11/under, 13/under, 15/under, 17/under age groups.

The Players battled against the heat and played three matches on the first day and two matches on the second day. The weekend played host to some of the best players in regions and proved to be tough competition for our developing athletes from the Metropolitan.  The Central Region victorious and given the crown of the best region closely  beating North Region  followed by the Gold Coast region who took out 3rd place.

The Metropolitan Team had some outstanding performances by Ben Slade who reached the Finals in the 15/under boys losing a tight 2 set match to Mitchell Harper from the Central Region. Other outstanding performances go to the 11/under boys and girls. Highlights were Alissa Eglesfield and Joshua Kuenstner who made the semi finals of their age group. Furthermore, Joshua Eglesfield was lucky enough to win a Bendigo Bank account with an account balance of $500 because as he was a player who attended more than 4 Junior Development Series events in Brisbane. Congratulations Joshua!

Overall, the Metropolitan Region tied with the North West Region at 6th Place.  The Metropolitan Representative players should be congratulated on their performance, sportsmanship and the team with the most spirit. I hope that this inspires young players to attend more Junior Development Series in the Metropolitan region as it is an important part of the development pathway.  Please make sure the next time that you are looking to compete in the Junior Development Series that you search go to www.tennis.com.au/metro.
