35+ Seniors Tennis will now be a part of the Queensland Platinum Australian Money Tournament (AMT) circuit. The new 35+ Seniors series enable players to be part of the flagship open AMT events operated throughout Queensland.

Players will compete for circuit points at the five platinum AMT tournaments held this year, with an overall champion to be determined after the five events.

Tennis Seniors Queensland president Phil Waight believes the formalised circuit is a good introduction to seniors tennis. “An AMT circuit will further enhance tennis in our state, because it introduces players to seniors’ events, and encourages athletes to continue playing in tournaments,” Waight said.

Cameron Pearson, Tennis Queensland’s CEO, says the decision to create a 35+ Seniors AMT circuit is a move in the right direction to advance tennis in Queensland.

“Tennis is enjoyed by people of all ages and abilities, so our programs and events need to reflect that,” Pearson commented.

“Senior players are a vital part of our tennis community, and introducing an AMT series further strengthens our relationship with 35+ Seniors tennis. By incorporating 35+ Seniors events into the Platinum AMT circuit, we are facilitating the needs of players who have moved on from open events but still wish to play competitively in money tournaments.”

The first 35+ Seniors AMT event will be run in conjunction with the QLD Open Clay Court Championships, in Ipswich at the George Alder Tennis Club from March 18-21.
