Mick Connell

Among his many singles and doubles titles, Mick won three Australian Opens (1989, 1991, 1993).

In addition to his treble of wins at his home championships, Mick rates the following title wins among his most memorable: three Japan Opens (1986, 1987, 1989), two Swiss Opens (1988, 1992), three Austrian Opens (1988, 1991, 1993), two German Opens (1988, 1990), the 1988 French Open and the 1994 Belgian Open.

In 1994 he teamed with David Hall to defeat France in the World Team Cup, securing Australia’s first ever win at this prestigious event.

Mick represented Australia at the Barcelona 1992 Paralympics and the Atlanta 1996 Paralympics, where he again joined with Hall to take home a silver medal in the doubles.

He reached a career-high singles ranking of No.2 (February 1993) and in doubles ascended to world No.1 (October 1994).

Mick is now passing on his knowledge as coach to a number of up-and-coming wheelchair tennis players at a rehabilitation centre in Sydney.
