Jordan Thompson has progressed to the second round of the US Men’s Clay Court championship in Texas with a straight-sets win over Pedja Krstin.

Australian seventh seed Thompson proved too good for 195th-ranked Serb qualifier, winning 7-5 6-2 in one hour and 35 minutes.

The next opponent, on Thursday, for the world No.67 Thompson will be Colombian qualifier Santiago Giraldo, who accounted for American Bradley Klahn 6-4 6-4.

Other first-round winners on Tuesday were Guillermo Garcia, qualifier Daniel Galan and Henri Laaksonen, who dispatched sixth-seeded American Mackenzie McDonald 6-3 6-4.

Aussie Bernard Tomic will face Spain’s Marcel Granollers – the 2008 champion in Houston – in second-round action on Wednesday.

At the WTA event in Bogota, Australia’s Astra Sharma was leading 2016 Roland Garros quarterfinalist Shelby Rogers 5-1 in the final set before darkness suspended play.

Sharma led 6-3 4-0 – and also 5-3 in the second set – before Rogers came storming back.

They will resume on Wednesday local time, with Sharma serving for the match.
