Chris O’Connell (NSW) has soared to new heights, qualifying today for Apia International Sydney and scoring a golden ticket into Australian Open 2017 after being awarded the final men’s singles wildcard.

The 22-year-old Sydney-sider enjoyed a stellar 2016. He claimed five ITF Futures titles, slashing his ATP ranking from world No.570 to 172 in the past 12 months, making him one to watch during the Australian summer of tennis.

“I’m so pumped to get a wildcard into the Australian Open,” Chris O’Connell said after his win in Sydney today.

“It’s been my dream for a long, long time, so I can’t wait to get down there. I know I could draw a top player but I’ll just see what the draw gives me. It’s a great opportunity, I’m thankful to Tennis Australia and I’m looking forward to it.”
