Biggest movers: O’Connell, Purcell make gains
Chris O'Connell and Max Purcell have continued their breakout seasons, rising in the latest ATP rankings.
Australian young guns Chris O’Connell and Max Purcell have both enjoyed significant rises in the latest release of the ATP rankings.
O’Connell rose 28 spots to a career-high ranking of 240th after his victory in the recent Blacktown Pro Tour final.
In that decider he beat Purcell, who also jumped 28 places to hit a career-best ranking of No.324.
Purcell, just 18, became the second-youngest Challenger champion in 16 years when he won the title in Gimcheon, Korea in July.
He has improved his ranking by more than 1,000 places in 2016.
The 22-year-old O’Connell’s victory in Blacktown was his fifth ITF Futures title of 2016 and pushed him into 12th place in the Australian rankings.
