Australian Daria Gavrilova beat Caroline Garcia of France in straight sets on Thursday to reach the quarterfinals of the China Open in Beijing.

Gavrilova won her third-round match 6-4 6-3 to set up a last-eight showdown with 16th seed Elina Svitolina of Ukraine.

Gavrilova, the world No.49, has beaten Svitolina in their three previous meetings in 2016, including at the Hopman Cup.

Svitolina caused a major upset on Thursday with a 6-3 7-5 win over top seed and Australian Open champion Angelique Kerber of Germany.

Poland’s No.3 seed Agnieszka Radwanska also won through to the quarterfinals, downing Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark 6-3 6-1.
