Well-travelled Australian Sam Groth has marched into the second round of the ATP Tour’s Atlanta Open with a straight-sets win over an American qualifier.

Groth beat 17-year-old Frances Tiafoe 7-6(3) 6-4 on Tuesday at the hardcourt tournament to set up a meeting with Marcos Baghdatis.

The Victorian served his 450th ace during the 82-minute victory.

Just this month, Groth has bounced between Wimbledon, Darwin, Bogota and Atlanta as he aims to further build on his best year yet in which he has risen to No.62 in the world rankings.

Groth is the loneĀ Australian in the main draw in Atlanta after Marinko Matosevic, Matthew Ebden and John-Patrick Smith fellĀ in qualifying.
