The Australian Fed Cup team has drawn a potentially tricky away tie against Slovakia in a World Group II clash in February next year.

Assuming she is fit, the Slovakian side is likely to be headed up by former world No.10 and Australian Open 2014 finalist Dominika Cibulkova.

Cibulkova hasn’t played since March when she had Achilles tendon surgery and has since slipped to No.43 in the rankings.

The Slovaks have three other players in the world top 60 including former Australian Open semifinalist Daniela Hantuchova.

Sam Stosur, currently world No.22, is expected to lead the Australian team.

Australia lost the 2015 World Group playoff to the Netherlands in April.

Meanwhile titleholders Czech Republic will travel to Romania in the first round of the competition in World Group I.

The Czechs have made it to the final again this year, facing Russia in November.

Also, on the weekend of 6-7 February, last year’s finalist Germany will host Switzerland. France will open against Italy, and the Netherlands will travel to Russia.

In other World Group II fixtures, it’s Canada v Belarus, the United States v Poland and Serbia v Spain.
