Czech Karolina Pliskova has stopped Daria Gavrilova’s run at the Miami Open, beating the Aussie in straight sets in the fourth round.

Pliskova won 6-3 6-2 in under an hour, advancing to the quarterfinals where she will face No.9 seed Andrea Petkovic.

Earlier in the tournament, Gavrilova caused a stir when she eliminated second set Maria Sharapova in an entertaining match under lights on Stadium court.

Yet Pliskova presented yet another tough challenge, and this time it proved too much to overcome.

The big-hitting Czech is one of the form players of 2015, reaching the finals at Premier events in Sydney and Dubai and building a 20-7 win-loss record; she currently sits in fourth place on the WTA Road to Singapore leaderboard.

She slammed seven aces and won 83 per cent of her first serve points en route to victory over Gavrilova.
