The annual December Showdown will begin tomorrow, a two-week summer tennis feast featuring 2000 matches that are free to the public.

The Showdown’s centrepiece event is the Australian Open Play-off, which sees the very best Australian players – who do not directly qualify for the Australian Open on their ranking – battling it out for a prized wildcard into the main draw.

The playoff begins on 9 December; beginning this weekend are the 14-and-under and 18-and-under Australian championships, the first of several national individual and team junior championships to grace Melbourne Park’s Plexicushion courts.
