Hyundai Hopman Cup drawcard Eugenie Bouchard has been honoured as the WTA Newcomer of the Year for season 2013.

The Canadian, who will partner Milos Raonic at the Perth Arena from 28 December to 4 January 2014, took the award ahead of fellow young guns Monica Puig of Puerto Rico and American Madison Keys.

She becomes the first Canadian since Carling Bassett in 1983 to win the prestigious award, which boasts an honour roll containing world No.1s Tracy Austin, Arantxa Sánchez-Vicario, Jennifer Capriati, Martina Hingis, Venus Williams, Serena Williams, Kim Clijsters and Maria Sharapova.

“Wow! What an honour to be named the WTA Newcomer of the Year. Thank you @WTA and everyone who voted for me,” Bouchard tweeted on Thursday.
