Sam Stosur has got her campaign at Indian Wells off to an ideal start thanks to a straight-set win over young American Madison Keys on Stadium 1.

Stosur navigated past the dangerous 18-year-old 6-3 6-4 in one hour and 14 minutes, moving into the third round in the Californian desert for the fourth straight year.

The Australian is notable for her serve, yet the world No.77 Keys showed her delivery is a mighty one as well, banging six aces and winning almost 80 per cent of points on her first delivery.

But it was on the second serve where they differed.

While Keys managed to win just 45 per cent of those points, Stosur’s formidable kicker helped her win an impressive 85 per cent, and the No.7 seed faced just one break point in the match, which she duly saved.

Stosur next faces 32nd seed Peng Shuai of China.
