Tampa, USA, 2 March 2013 | samstosur.com

In her time off after playing at Dubai and before heading to Indian Wells for the start of the US spring hardcourt season, we chat to Sam Stosur to get her thoughts on her season so far, her form, and what lies ahead.

Quarterfinal finishes at Doha and Dubai – how would you rate your form and performances during the recent Middle East swing?
I feel I started to play much better tennis the last couple of weeks which is a good feeling. I haven’t changed anything but I’m sticking at it and keep training well and I’ve started to see the benefits in doing that.

Where would you say your game is at compared to where it was in January during the Australian summer?
I think it’s gone up a level or two since January. I feel I’m serving better and overall have gained a little confidence which always makes you feel like your timing improves, which then allows you to do more of what you want, rather then be dictated to.

We’re coming up to the spring hardcourt events in Indian Wells and Miami. Do you feel the slow hardcourts suit your game?
I really like playing the next tournaments. The conditions in Indian Wells are light and I feel suit my natural style of play. I also feel Miami does too even though it’s much more humid there – I’m pretty used to that kind of weather being from the Gold Coast and spending a bit of time Tampa which is only a few hours from Miami.
