The Australian women’s wheelchair team of Luba Josevski (Thomastown, Vic), Janel Manns (Port Macquarie, NSW) and Sarah Calati (Surrey Hills, Vic) have finished in second place behind Thailand at the 2012 Wheelchair BNP Paribas World Team Cup Asia/Oceania Pre-qualifying event in India.
“This was my first World Cup qualifying event and first overseas tour,” Sarah Calati said.
“I played singles and doubles and felt pretty comfortable on court … I played against Sir Lanka in the round-robin format.
The Australian women unfortunately required a win to secure a World Team Cup berth. They will now need to be awarded a wildcard to get a start.
“Playing in India was a great experience, I had a great time,” continued Calati, who aced her opponent three times in her opening game.
Ben Weekes (Strathfield, NSW), Keegan Oh-Chee (Eastwood, NSW) and Adam Kellerman (St Ives, NSW), having already qualified for the World Team Cup, will represent Australia in the men’s competition.
The Wheelchair BNP Paribas World Team Cup will be held in Seoul, South Korea from 21-27 May 2012.
