Sweden’s two-time French Open finalist Robin Soderling on Saturday booked his place in the eight-man World Tour Finals thanks to the luck of the draw at next week’s ATP events.
Despite losing a Stockholm Open quarter-final Friday to German Florian Mayer, the world number five is assured his spot in the field, becoming the fifth of the eight qualifiers.
ATP officials said that due to the composition of draws at Vienna, St Petersburg and Montpellier, Soderling had guaranteed his spot, joining Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, and Andy Murray in the November 21-28 event in London.
“I’ve always dreamed about playing at the finals,” said Soderling in a statement. “I had some really good memories from last year.
“Hopefully I can take that experience and do even better this time. There are only eight players and you play against the world’s best so every match you play could be like a Grand Slam final.
“I will have to be ready from the first match,” added Soderling.
