Three members from the same family have been awarded Tennis Victoria Tennis Service Awards for their outstanding service to the Doutta Galla Tennis Club in North Essendon.

Kathy Glass, Graeme Glass, Kat Glass and Dianne Linforth all received the recognition awards in a special function at the club on Wednesday.

Husband and wife duo Graeme and Kathy Glass have been involved in the club since 1990.  Graeme took on the role of Treasurer for 10 years while Kathy occupied the role of Junior Coordinator for 17 years until 2006.

Graeme was a significant instigator at the club, installing lights on all three of its courts and played a significant role in the resurfacing of the courts during this time.  With an impending drought and water restrictions, the selection of surface and obtaining a grant to fund this project was vital in ensuring the club could remain viable and could continue to provide a first class facility to its members.

Both Kathy and Graeme add Tennis Service Awards to their Doutta Galla Tennis Club Life Membership status.

Daughter of Kathy and Graeme, Kat Glass was also recognised with a Tennis Service Award.  Kat took on the role of Club Treasurer when her father retired from the committee.  Over the last 15 years, Kat’s efforts in monitoring the upkeep of the club’s finances has been first class.

Also receiving a Tennis Service Award was long-standing volunteer Dianne Linforth.  Dianne has been a part of the club committee in some capacity since 1982, and most notably was club secretary from 1984 – 1996. A life member, Dianne has also served as an assistant delegate to the North Suburban Ladies Tennis Association alongside Kathy.

The club is well known for its outstanding volunteers with Club President Aaron Sharpe receiving a Highly Commended Tennis Service Award earlier in the year.

Tennis Victoria’s volunteer recognition program includes the Tennis Service Award which is to recognise those who have demonstrated their contribution to the sport of tennis through devoted and significant service to any one or more of the State Tennis Associations’ affiliated tennis clubs and/or associations and/or member organisations.

All Tennis Service Award recipients from the year receive a special invitation to the Tennis Victoria Volunteers’ Breakfast, hosted during the Australian Open on 19 January 2017.
