Information for Clubs and Coaches

Tennis West member clubs and Tennis Australia Coach members have access to a range of resources to support engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OR WELCOME TO COUNTRY

Tennis is committed to creating an environment that respects, recognises and celebrates Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultural identities. We encourage all Clubs to incorporate a Welcome to Country at large events where possible, and/or Acknowledgement of Country into their Club Activities and other events to demonstrate respect of the Traditional land owners.

TENNIS AUSTRALIA FIRST NATIONS ENGAGMENT GUIDE

Tennis Australia has created an Engagement Guide to equip our clubs and coaches with the foundational knowledge and confidence to help connect and collaborate with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities.

These guidelines are the culmination of many months of research and consultation with key stakeholders including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to create a resource that is culturally appropriate, informative and up to date.

You are encouraged to read this guide and understand more about the connection between Tennis and our First Nations Peoples. Click here to log in to the Bounce platform and access the First Nations Engagement Guide under ‘Inclusion & Diversity’.

RECONCILIATION ACTION PLANS

A Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) is a strategic document that supports an organisation’s business plan. It includes practical actions that will drive an organisation’s contribution to reconciliation both internally and in the communities in which it operates.

The RAP Program contributes to advancing the five dimensions of reconciliation by supporting organisations to develop respectful relationships and create meaningful opportunities with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Each of the four RAP types (Reflect, Innovate, Stretch, Elevate) set out the minimum elements required from your organisation to build strong relationships, respect and opportunities within your organisation and community.

Tennis West is currently working on our Reflect RAP.
