The Victorian Community Tennis Awards recognise Victoria’s on and off court success in a community tennis celebration. Congratulations to the following 3 finalists for the Most Outstanding School award!
Livingstone Primary School
At Livingstone Primary School, they successfully integrate tennis into their school environment, engaging all 625 students across terms 2, 3, and 4. The tennis program is highly popular among students, and ensures it is inclusive by offering activities with adaptable progressions and regressions, catering to students of all abilities. Through the Tennis Hot Shots program, accessible opportunities are provided for every student to engage in tennis, ensuring that all participants, including those with disabilities and from underrepresented groups, can enjoy and benefit from the sport.
Sporting Schools funding plays a crucial role in allowing Livingstone Primary School to connect with the local tennis club and coach, providing the opportunity to deliver tennis to their students throughout the year.
In 2024, 3 mixed teams and 2 girls teams participated in the district carnival where one Boys/Mixed team achieved remarkable success, advancing through the District, Division, and Regional stages to reach the SSV State Championships at the prestigious Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club. There, they achieved the status of State Champions. Opportunities such as attending the Kids On Court event at the Australian Open are a testament to this strong community support and commitment to offering their students unforgettable experiences that enhance their love of the sport. This combination of opportunity, support, and passion truly makes Livingstone Primary School a leader in tennis education in Victoria
Mentone Primary School
Mentone Primary School demonstrates a strong commitment to integrating tennis into its school environment, enhancing both the physical education curriculum and the overall student experience through several initiatives. Tennis is seamlessly incorporated into the physical education curriculum from Prep-Grade 6. Community Partnerships is evident with MPS collaborating with local tennis organisations, such as Mentone Tennis Club and Coach Laura with support from the Nick Kyrgios Foundation. MPS promotes ongoing participation through actively encouraging students to continue their tennis journey beyond school programs, informing them about local club opportunities. MPS has also been a Partner School with Tennis Australia since 2017.
Mentone Primary School actively participates in various tennis competitions, fostering a strong culture of sportsmanship and skill development among its students. These include the Intra-School Competition, Gala Days and Team Tennis Competitions. In 2024 the Girls Hot Shots Tennis Team won the Kingston Division championship at Maccabi Tennis Club, showcasing their dedication and competitive spirit.
While other schools in Victoria also offer tennis programs, Mentone Primary School’s holistic approach—encompassing excellent facilities, curriculum integration, community partnerships, and promotion of continued participation—distinguishes it as a premier institution for tennis education in the region.
