Day 4 saw a couple of our double’s pairs and juniors begin to take court.
Day 4:
Day four of the AO saw doubles duo, Victorian John Peers and Jamie Murray from Great Britain, join forces against Borna Gojo from Croatia and Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic. In a short and sweet 45-minute match Peers and Murray came away with the win in a 6-3,6-7(5), 6-3 victory.
Our second doubles match of the day involved an all-Victorian pair in Marc Polmans and Matthew Romios. Romios experienced his Grand Slam debut alongside old time friend Polmans. The Vics were victorious over the opposing French duo consisting of Manuel Guinard and Arthur Rinderknech, defeating them 7-6, 3-6, 6-3. The local pair will continue to keep digging in their next match.
Day 5:
On Day 5 our first Women’s Doubles pair consisting of our very own Victorian Jaimee Fourlis and her South-Australian partner Petra Hule had their first match. Their opponents Elise Mertens (Belgium) and Ellen Perez (Australia) won in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5, against them.
Day 6:
Our next Women’s Doubles duo Victorian Daria Saville and Queenslander Priscilla Hon took to court against the Italians Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini. Errani and Paolini managed to take the win in two sets with the results ending 6-1, 7-5.
Peers and Murray took to the court again to face off against Dutchmen Botic Van de Zandschulp and Tallon Griekspoor. The Dutch duo were victorious, winning in straight sets with a scoreline of 7-5, 6-2.
Destanee Aiava came back to play with partner Maddison Inglis, where they were defeated by Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk and Romanian Elena-Gabriela Ruse in a competitive match with the final scores sitting at 6-4, 7(7)-6(2).
In the Mixed Doubles, husband and wife duo Daria and Luke Saville came up against American Jackson Withrow and Irina Khromacheva. They lost the match in straight sets, with the final score being 6-4, 6-0.
Later on in the day, Polmans and Romios returned for their second doubles match against Finnish tennis player Harri Heliövaara and British partner Henry Patten. Heliövaara and Patten defeated the Victorians in straight sets, with the final scores being 7-6(7), 6-3.
Juniors:
Victorian Ava Beck was defeated by British player Mingge Xu in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2.
Victorian Ymerali Ibraimi beat Brazilian Pedro Albuquerque Dietrich in two sets, 7-5, 6-3.
Victorian pair Ava Beck and Koharu Nishikawa lost to Bulgarians Rositsa Dencheva and Elizara Yaneva in doubles, 6-3, 6(11)-2(9)
