The Victorian Player of the Year is an award to recognise outstanding achievements by Victorian professional tennis players. The player will have outstanding results on court, including ranking improvement in both singles and/or doubles. They will have displayed tennis’ values of humility and excellence.
Meet the finalists:
Arina Rodionova
Arina extended her ITF success at the back end of 2023 with victories in Lousada Portugal, Edmonton Canada and Trnava Slovakia. She was selected to represent Australia at the Billie Jean Cup Qualifiers. She reached a career high WTA Singles Ranking of 97 in February 2024. Arina made second round Qualifying at Wimbledon and had first round Qualifying appearances at the Australian Open and French Open.
Daria Saville
Saville made a strong comeback after injury, returning to the Grand Slam stage at the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon (second round), and also represented Australia at the Billie Jean Cup Qualifiers and the Paris Olympics. Daria went through qualifying for the WTA 1000 in Madrid, making second round and the WTA 500 in Charleston, also with a second round appearance. Semi finals at the WTA 250 in Hobart and Quarter Finals at the WTA 500 in San Diego were among her best performances for the year.
John Peers
The highlight of John’s year has been his selection for the Paris Australian Olympic team and going on to win the Gold Medal in the Men’s Doubles with Matt Ebden. Peers/Ebden also made the final of Eastbourne. He won the Nottingham 2 Challenger 125 with Brit Marcus Wills. John also had finals appearances at Asatan 250 and Houston 250 and he made second round at the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon all with various partners.
