People like Philip Bush are integral in a place like the Macedon Ranges that’s made up of small regional towns to create connected and thriving community through their local sporting organisations.

Passionate about tennis, his community and volunteering, Philip has been recognised by Tennis Victoria for his contribution to tennis when he received a Highly Commended Service Award.

Following the presentation of the award Philip said: “I am extremely proud to receive this award and feel very humbled to be recognized by Tennis Victoria for my volunteer work with both my local club and the broader Association. It was completely unexpected as recognition and awards is not my motivation for contributing as a volunteer.”

Philip encourages tennis participation at all levels and his leadership and mentoring qualities have contributed greatly to the growth of tennis in the area. His formal positions held include:

Macedon Ranges Tennis Association

President – 2015-present

Thursday Night Comp Coordinator – 2015-present

Thursday Night Match & Permit Committee – 2015-present

Saturday Open Match & Permit Committee

South Gisborne Tennis Club

Vice President – 2007-2009

President – 2009-2014

MRTA Delegate – 2011–present

Reflecting on his time volunteering Philip said:

“I don’t consider what I do as ‘work’ as I love tennis and I enjoy contributing to my local club and take great satisfaction in being part of the growth of the local competitions coordinated by the MRTA. It has been very rewarding to be involved in the ongoing improvement of the facilities at my local tennis club in South Gisborne and to get the upgrading of tennis club facilities permanently included in the annual budget of the local shire council. I have also taken great satisfaction in being part of the growth of the MRTA Night Competition, hearing stories of the competition enabling players to return to tennis after many years away from the game and also providing the opportunity for family groups to play together in the same team.”

Tennis Victoria appreciates your contribution Philip, thank you and congratulations!
