Defending champion, Goulburn, is aiming to continue their dominance when the 64th Tennis Victoria Inter-regional Country Championships begins on Friday at Mildura Lawn Tennis Club.

The Tennis Victoria Inter-regional Country Championships is an annual teams and individual tournament played in early January over three days at a regional venue in Victoria.

Approximately 250 players from nine Victorian country regions will compete at the three-day event that gives players an unique opportunity to play against some of the best country players from all over Victoria.

The Inter-regional Country Championships cater for players in 12/u to 18/u age groups, as well as 25/u, Open and 35+ age groups, and is open to all 11 country regions whose players are members of clubs that are affiliated with Tennis Victoria.

Tournament Director, Shelly Hart, said all regions are excited to start the New Year on a winning note.

“All regions are primed for the 2020 event but I’m particularly looking forward to seeing which region can challenge Goulburn for the title,” Hart said.

“This is a great event that has a proud history and I think it is very unique in its capacity to bring together a variety of age groups.

“I wish all regions the best of luck and know we’re going to have a wonderful event played in the right spirit,” she said.

Goulburn has had a strong hold on the Inter-regional Country Championships winning the 2017, 2018 and 2019 titles. Their talented squad will be the one the beat, however, there are high-quality players across the board ready to challenge Goulburn.
