John Voss OAM has been the back-bone of Wahgunyah Tennis Club since 1952. A well-known name within the region, John encourages everyone to have a go and to participate in Tennis.

John is the team coordinator of both Senior and Junior teams, he organises Club Championships as well as advertising and promotion at the local school.

John’s contribution to the Tennis Club has also been through his involvement with the Wahgunyah Recreation Reserve where he has ensured the on-going high standard for all facilities. John’s vision for the whole recreation reserve has seen the community benefit from his tireless efforts for all the sporting groups within the reserve.

Part of the Tennis Victoria Recognition program, the program aims to recognise persons who have demonstrated their contribution to the sport of tennis through devoted and significant service to one or more of Tennis Victoria’s affiliated tennis clubs and/or associations and/or member organisations.

A Highly Commended Service award is presented to someone that demonstrates exemplary and outstanding service to a club, centre or association for a significant period of continuous or broken service.

John commenced playing tennis for Wahgunyah in 1952 which saw him play competition until he was 67 years of age. In 1954 he was the organising secretary and then served two years as President of and another 2 years as Vice President.

John has held every executive position for the club and has been the Secretary/Treasurer for 37+ years.

In 1975 he received Life Membership of the Corowa and District Tennis Association and in 1979, Life Membership of the Wahgunyah Tennis Club.
