3 November 2017 | Tennis Victoria

Some of the best local and international tennis players are about to descend on Victoria for the commencement of the 2017 Tennis Victoria Premier League season, which is boasting one of the most potent line-ups ever seen.

Destanee Aiava, Jaimee Fourlis, Omar Jasika and Matthew Dellavedova are just some of the big names heading up a star-studded field for the competition.

Tennis Victoria Premier League is the state’s highest level inter-club competition in which clubs battle it out for a total prize money pool of $20,000 in the men’s and women’s competitions.

Five men’s and women’s teams will play across a five-round season before the two-week finals series begins. MCC Glen Iris Valley Tennis Club has already been announced as the grand final venue with a number of activities planned for local ANZ Tennis Hot Shots participants to get involved in.

Tennis Victoria Competitions Manager, Jeff Downes, is confident 2017 will be one of the most competitive seasons ever seen.

“It’s hard to think of a Tennis Victoria Premier League season that has had top-line talent of this nature,” Downes said.

“The season is going to be extremely competitive and I’m also excited about the initiatives we have organised, including the community engagement award which is presented to the clubs that successfully engage their community during the Super Rounds.”

Defending women’s champion, Liston Tennis Club, looks to be the front runner to go back-to-back with the strong team they have assembled. Men’s runners up from last year, Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club, are aiming to reverse their fortunes from 2016.

For the first time in the Tennis Victoria Premier League history the Grand Final Day will be livestreamed. With this exciting initiative, Downes hopes to not just capture the audience unable to attend on the day but add a different dimension to the delivery of the competition.

“We feel that offering this option will enhance the look and feel of the competition,” Downes said.

“Livestreaming Grand Final Day will also provide that lasting memory of what will undoubtedly be a brilliant season.”

Tennis Victoria will also be providing a wrap-up video of each round, which is aimed at optimising the distribution of results and news.

The competition will commence on Saturday 11 November and run through to Saturday 2 December 2017.
