With Pennant finals almost complete for another year, Tennis Victoria has named the recipients of the 2015 Pennant Player of the Year Award.

Undefeated all season, Hepner Place Indoor’s Romona Mataruga (300 points) took home top honours in  Women’s Grade 1, with teammate Carolyn McGann a close second on 290 points.

Essendon’s Kourtney Pallero (291.7 points) finished on top in the Women’s Grade 2 category, while Chadstone’s Natasha Menchikoun was named the Grade 3 Player of the Year on a greater percentage of sets won against Megan Lee (Essendon).

In the Women’s Grade 4, Jemma Carbis (300 points) put in a perfect season to be named Player of the Year ahead of Mt Eliza’s Courtney Skene (291.7 points).

Winning the Men’s Grade 1 award was Jake Thiessen (280 points) from North Ringwood, with teammate Cory Phillips runner up on 258.5 points.

Stephen Fotakis from the Nottinghill Pinewood club took home top honours in the Men’s Grade 2 category after an undefeated season, with Tony Brushfield of Hepner Place Indoor runner up on 290 points.

Men’s Grade 3 Player of the Year was awarded to Bradley Tuckerman of Koonung Park (283.3 points) while the Men’s Grade 4 saw one of the closest match up of the entire competition.

Mayfield Park’s Jake Harvey and George Mitsas recorded near perfect seasons, with the pair so evenly matched neither lost a rubber or a set. Despite being tied on 300 points, Jake Harvey was named Player of the Year with a greater percentage of games won.

Grade 1 Men’s Open Doubles Pennant Player of the Year went to Cameron Maccoll from St Marys (Greensborough) who notched up 100 points throughout the season.  Kooyong Lawn’s Stephen Gay was runner up on 87.5 points.

Mornington Tennis Club’s Grant Bridgman and David Adams took home first and second in Grade 2 while less than 10 points separated Grade 3 winner George Mandalis Jnr (Hampton Park) and Terry Love (90.9) from Kurunjang.

Grace Park Hawthorn’s Barry Schmidt capped off an outstanding season after winning the Masters 45+ Doubles A Grade premiership last weekend by also being the player of the year.

The presentations of the 2015 Pennant Player of the Year Awards will be held at the Asia Pacific Tennis League South Conference Finals Day on Sunday 6 December at the National Tennis Centre, where each winner will be invited as a VIP guest and will receive two 2016 Australian Open ground passes and a certificate as acknowledgement of their outstanding individual season.
