UPDATED ANNOUNCEMENT – WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 1

With the recent Victorian Government announcement on September 1, unfortunately the 2021 Tennis Victoria Pennant finals series have been cancelled.

With the cancellation of the finals series, and the interrupted nature of this season, Tennis Victoria is not in a position to award Premiers for either Grades or Sections.

Tennis Victoria appreciates the clubs’ and players’ flexibility and support throughout 2021. Thank you very much for your contribution to a positive playing experience for our players; we could not make our league successful without you.

Tennis Victoria will welcome feedback from all stakeholders on our Men’s and Women’s Pennant format in the coming months, so keep an eye on your email for a survey that will assist us shape the league for the future.

Thank you and we look forward to seeing all of our Tennis Victoria Pennant players back in 2022.

WHAT IS PENNANT?

Tennis Victoria Pennant is Australia’s largest inter-club league and marks its 138th year since inception in 2021.

The league is played over 14 or 15 weeks. In eight team sections, each team plays each other twice over 14 weeks, and in six team sections teams plays each other three times over 15 weeks.

For 2021, our Men’s and Women’s leagues will see a trial change in the format as an adaption to the uncertainty of the pandemic. Instead of singles one week and doubles the next, singles and doubles will be played each week, adopting a similar format as Tennis Victoria’s Associations Junior League. Two eight-game sets will be played for both doubles rubbers, followed by four singles rubbers, played in a best-of-two set format, with a ten-point match tiebreaker instead of a full third. This is a similar format to what was going to be used for the cancelled 2020 season.
