What is the December Showdown?

The December Showdown brings together the best Australian players in each age group for a two week tennis carnival.  The event culminates with the Australian Open Play-off featuring 24 men and 16 women.  The last man and woman standing will receive a wildcard into the main draw of the Australian Open 2015.

 What is the Schools Experience?

The Schools Experience provides schools and their students with the opportunity to participate in one of the many events leading up to the Australian Open 2015.  The event is a free day out for all to become involved, and better still if your students have never tried tennis before this is the perfect opportunity for them!

The day includes:

• On court session for students to test their tennis skills
• a tour of Melbourne Park with an official Tour guide
• the chance to watch Australia’s most talented athletes competing
• up close and personal interviews with competing players
• free show bag for all participates
• opportunities for your school to become a part of the many Tennis in School programs on offer

 When and where is it?

Schools can attend the December Showdown from 8 to 19  December 2014 at Melbourne Park, home of the Australian Open.

 How many students can we bring to one session?

There are two sessions per day, Each session can accommodate 75 students, therefore if you would like to make it a day out for your students the maximum who can participate in one day is 150 (75 in the morning and 75 in the afternoon session).

 What are the session times each day?

Morning session: 9.45am – 1.00pm

Afternoon session: 11.45am – 2.30pm

How do we apply to be a part of the event?

Simply complete the online application form with your schools preferred dates of attendance.  We will endeavour to accommodate all schools who apply.

* Please note some schools may be asked to join in with other schools to ensure maximum participation.

What happens if our school is not allocated a position at this year’s event?

Don’t worry if your school is not formally allocated a position, your school is still able to attend the grounds of Melbourne Park to watch some of the best matches taking place as well as join us for the lunch time talks with players from 12.00pm – 12.30pm each day.
