The Victorian Player of the Year is an award to recognise outstanding achievements by Victorian professional tennis players. The player will have outstanding results on court, including ranking improvement in both singles and/or doubles. They will have displayed tennis’ values of humility and excellence.
Meet the finalists:
Destanee Aiava
Destanee Aiava has continued her impressive journey since the 2025 Australian Open. Having now competed in three Grand Slams this year, her momentum has steadily built. Recently, she played in the US Open, earning her spot in the main draw through qualifying. While her campaign ended in the first round, her progress on and off the court has been remarkable. The experience of competing on the Grand Slam stage has not only elevated her game but also set the stage for her next chapter in her professional career. Aiava’s determination and resilience remain a source of pride for Victorian tennis fans. To read more about Destanee’s results from AO25 and her key achievements, click here.
Jin Woodman
16-year-old Jin Woodman has risen to No. 3 in the Junior Singles ITF rankings and No. 9 in Quad Singles as of September 2025. Earlier this year, Jin was supposed to go to Korea and Japan to compete, but suffered an injury to his femur which forced him to make a break from tennis. However Jin made his comeback recently, at the 2025 US Open, where he avenged his 2025 Australian Open defeat to Ahmet Kaplan from Turkey, defeating the No. 4 seed 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 to reach the US Open quad singles quarterfinals, proving he is a player to keep your eyes on.
John Peers
John Peers has continued his impressive form on the doubles circuit, following on from last year’s major success at the Paris Olympics, winning a Gold Medal alongside doubles partner Matt Ebden. Earlier this year at the Australian Open, Peers saw more success in winning the Mixed Doubles alongside fellow Aussie, Olivia Gadecki. The pair had a hugely succesful campaign which further cemented Peers as Victoria’s most celebrated doubles champion! Read more about Peers’ AO25 success here.
