In the spirit of All Abilities Week 2025, Tennis Victoria is celebrating initiatives that make tennis more inclusive and accessible for everyone. This week highlights the efforts of clubs, coaches, volunteers, and players who are committed to creating welcoming environments where everyone can enjoy tennis, regardless of ability.
On 8 October, Clarinda Tennis Club hosted a session of the Tennis Victoria Accessibility and Inclusion Checklist, attended by the club coach, the club president, and Paralympian Heath Davidson. During the session, participants reviewed club facilities, programs, and communication practices, identifying small but meaningful adjustments to improve access and inclusion.
The Accessibility and Inclusion Checklist is a practical tool designed by Tennis Victoria to help clubs consider the diverse needs of their players and visitors. The session provides clubs with detailed information to help make informed decisions that can have a lasting positive impact on their communities.
Inclusion Manager, Adam Watson from Tennis Victoria explains: “It takes 30–45 minutes and provides clubs with more detailed information so individuals can make informed decisions. The benefits extend beyond accessibility, creating a more inclusive and welcoming environment enhances the experience for everyone involved in the club community.”
The checklist is designed to be completed by a range of people, including those with lived experience of disability, ensuring assessments reflect diverse perspectives and lead to practical improvements that benefit the entire tennis community.
Tennis Victoria is committed to supporting clubs across the state in implementing these practical, achievable changes. Whether it’s improving physical accessibility, providing clearer information online, or supporting staff and volunteers, the Accessibility and Inclusion Checklist helps clubs take measurable steps toward creating a truly inclusive environment.
