30 June 2025 | Tennis Victoria

Victoria’s rising stars have wrapped up an exciting week on the Gold Coast at the 2025 Australian Teams Championships, proudly representing the state across the 11/u, 13/u and 15/u age groups.
As the most prestigious junior team event on the national calendar, the Championships, brought together top young talent from every state and territory, along with teams from Pacific Oceania and New Zealand. Competing in a high-performance team environment, Victoria’s junior athletes showcased their skills, determination, and sportsmanship across a thrilling two weeks of matches.
The 11/u and 13/u competitions ran from June 18 to 23, while the 15/u event followed from June 25 to 29. Unfortunately, heavy and consistent rain on the final day of the 11/u and 13/u events made it impossible to complete the finals. As a result, both finalist teams in each age group were awarded joint championship honours. Despite the weather challenges, the week was filled with spirited performances, great sportsmanship, and team pride.
Tournaments Coordinator Thomas Flloyd reflected on the experience, saying, “Team Vic played with amazing spirit, clutching some very close and important matches.” For some players, it was their first time away from home which was an incredible opportunity to build independence and learn personal accountability. Outside of tennis, the team created lasting memories playing padel, mini golf, and enjoying time at the driving range.
Girls’ 11/u coach Zoe Hives also shared her thoughts on the tournament: “I can’t express how proud I am of the girls. We all (I hope) learnt lots, and I’ll be a better coach for the experience.” Her sentiment captures the essence of junior competition that is learning, growing, and making the most of every moment.
Tennis Victoria extends a sincere thank you to all players, coaches, parents, and officials for their patience, adaptability and support throughout the week.
