14 year-old Victorian tennis player Kohara Nishikawa is representing Australia at the World Junior Tennis Finals in the Czech Republic.

Australia’s top junior girls’ have begun their campaign at the 14-and-under ITF World Junior Tennis Finals, taking place from 7-12 August in Prostejov, Czech Republic.

Under the guidance of former player Jess Moore, Victoria’s Koharu Nishikawa (14), Sydney’s Renee Alame (14) and Perth’s Sara Nikolic (13) are lining up for team Australia at the event.

In addition to representing Australia on the world stage, Nishikawa also plays for Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club in Tennis Victoria State Grade competition.

The Finals features 16 of the world’s best junior tennis nations. Australia earned its place in the Finals from the Asia / Oceania qualifying event held in Malaysia in March.

Teams will compete in a round-robin style format, with the top countries progressing to an elimination quarterfinal stage. Each tie will consist of two singles and a doubles match.

Australia has been drawn in Pool A, against Romania, Brazil and Paraguay. The first day of play (Monday 7 August, 2023) saw the Australian team post a 3-0 win over Paraguay.
