Tennis Victoria would like to congratulate Josh Charlton and Ben Grumley from the Gippsland Sports Academy Tennis Program. Both boys were honoured for their efforts and claimed the coveted Tim Forsyth and David Drane Awards at the Gippsland Sports Academy Annual Awards night last Friday.

Josh Charlton was the winner of the Tim Forsyth Award for Sporting Excellence, which also doubles as the major award of the evening.

In January 2017, Charlton’s Australian ranking was outside the top 100 and by the end of the year his ranking improved to an impressive 71 in the country.

Last year, Charlton played Grade 1 Tennis Victoria Pennant for Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club, where he is currently a scholarship holder. His team accomplished the highest feat, winning the competition in August. Charlton was instrumental in the final, winning his singles and both his double matches, which propelled Kooyong Lawn to a memorable victory.

Ben Grumley was the winner of the David Drane Award for Encouragement.

Grumley made a huge amount of progress in his tennis over the last twelve months. He has trained at a very high intensity and isn’t scared of putting in the extra hard work as he strives to improve his game. He is becoming a role model for the younger athletes in the academy and sets a great example both on and off the court.

Both players should be proud of their achievements and caps off what was an outstanding year for them.
