The 2017 Tennis Victoria Yarrawonga Junior Challenge wrapped up on the weekend with some 100 players taking part in the event.

Many from metropolitan Melbourne travelled to compete in the event which saw more than 200 matches played with plenty of local players enjoying success.

The 12/U boys doubles final was dubbed the “Battle of the River” as Albury pair Rory Parnell and Tom Harrington defeated Yarrawonga duo Jack Bassett and Fraser Bennett.

Tennis Victoria was thrilled with the event and the experience the young players gained from playing on such pristine grass courts. The involvement in these types of tournaments exposes the players to high-level tournament play which is integral in their tennis development.

Yarrawonga Lawn Tennis Club president Stephen York was pleased they could accommodate the event and is already looking ahead to another action-packed weekend.

“Yarrawonga Lawn Tennis Club was again privileged to hold the Yarrawonga Junior Challenge. It was fantastic to host over 100 junior entrants over the weekend,” York said.

“The extremely high standard of tennis played was amazing.

“Thank you to major sponsors Tennis Victoria and Yarrawonga Mulwala Tourism for bringing this event to our region. A big thanks also to club members and grounds staff for all their efforts. We now look forward to hosting the seniors this coming week.”

The tennis continues this week for Yarrawonga Lawn Tennis Club with Tennis Seniors Victoria hosting an International Tennis Federation Seniors event, commencing Friday 24 November – Monday 27 November.
