Name: Tim Dean

Title: School Development Coordinator for the West

What is your role at Tennis Victoria? I am the first point of contact for schools in the West for all tennis related activity. I am responsible for assisting schools in the implementation of tennis as part of their school curriculum as well as any strategic initiatives related to school activities. I have a responsibility for the promotion, recruitment, education and coordination for schools participating in the School Sports Victoria (SSV) Red Ball competitions and coordinating these events. I also coordinate teacher training & education and deliver and support at conferences and events such as ACPHER.

Best thing about the role: The flexibility and freedom. Every day is different, from attending school visits, delivering workshops, travelling to regional parts of Victoria that I’ve never been to before and running Hot Shots competitions. We’re always busy which is what I enjoy.

What was your previous role? Physical Education Teacher, hence why I am loving the flexibility and freedom!

What are your interests outside of Tennis Victoria: Keeping active (riding, running and playing tennis) going to the beach, when it’s warm, hanging out with the family (I have 3 kids who keep me pretty busy, 13, 11 and 4 years old) and cooking.

Favourite tennis player/sporting athlete and why: I’ve always loved Patty Rafter. I saw him play against Goran Ivanisevic at Wimbledon in 2001. It was so heart-breaking to see him lose what was such an epic men’s final. The thing I love about Pat Rafter is his determination to succeed and his attitude. He just went about his business and tried to do the best he could and never gave up.

What is one interesting fact that no one else knows about you: I lived overseas for 7 years, 2 years in London, 2 years in Qatar and 3 years in Egypt. Because of this, my eldest son was born in Qatar and my eldest daughter born in Egypt.

If you were Prime Minister of Australia for one day, what would your first change be: I’d make child-care free for working families.

If you had one super power for a day, what would it be? Go back in time – I’d buy shares in both Apple and Microsoft!
