The Tennis Victoria Pennant season for 2017 has come to an end and the Player of the Year awards have been officially unveiled.

One player from each Grade will receive the award, which signifies the impressive consistency shown over an entire season.

This year’s Men’s Grade 1 winner saw 2016 recipient, Matthew Hicks (Centre Court Indoor), defend his award. Hicks’ 2017 nod sees him claim his third Player of the Year award in four Tennis Victoria Pennant seasons.

The Centre Court Indoor star scored a total of 283 from a possible 300 points and although humbled by the honour he’s got his sights set on team success.

“To win back-to-back Grade 1 Pennant Player of the Year awards – and three in four years – is a great achievement,” Hicks said.

“In saying that, I would trade it in a heartbeat to have and taste team success.”

On the women’s side, Dubrayka Rakonjac (Officer Tennis Club) took out the award scoring a perfect 300 points.

This was Officers’ first year in Pennant since 2012 and their first time in Women’s Grade 1. Rakonjac played a pivotal role in the team’s success, leading them to the Grade Finals series.

The Players of the Year awards take into account both an individual’s singles and doubles results across the year and at times requires a near perfect season to win the honour.

Congratulations to all other Player of the Year winners. The awards will be handed out at the 2017 Premier League Grand Final day on Saturday 2 December.
