Australia’s largest inter-club competition Tennis Victoria Pennant will enter finals mode this weekend.

Following 14 rounds of competition and over 4000 players representing 140 clubs, playing in approximately 14,000 individual rubbers through winter, the season within a season begins.

The unique aspect of Pennant will be on display as the teams in the top 4 within their Section battle it out in the first stage of Sectional Finals. The two winners will then advance to the next stage the Grade Finals series.

For those who advance through to Sectional Finals, they will then be ranked based upon their finishing position within their Section and number of points earned during the regular season. The higher advancing team from within their Section receive an automatic rank and the lower advancing team from within a Section are placed on the opposite side of the Grand Finals draw.

Tennis Victoria Competitions Manager, Jeff Downes is excited about the finals commencing this weekend.

“Finals fever is certainly here and we wish all competing players and clubs the best of luck as they chase that prestigious Grade Pennant,” Downes said.

“When you consider there can be up to 48 teams within some Grades, it is certainly a remarkable achievement by any club and its players to win a Grade Pennant.”
