Name: Sean Munaweera

Title: Communications and digital coordinator

Role: This role is aimed at further enhancing tennis’ presence in the digital space. I’ll be aiming to promote the many good news stories in our sport with a particular focus on some of the dedicated and passionate players and volunteers from around the state.

Best thing about the role: There is so much variety in the role but the main attraction is that I get to be a small part in such an enjoyable sport.

Previous employment: I was juggling many roles in a variety of sporting and media organisations, including: Tennis Australia, AFL Media, Hockey Victoria, SEN and SBS radio.

How long have you been at TV: I’m still in my first week at Tennis Victoria.

What are your interests outside of TV: My interests include continuing my gymnastics training when I get a chance, watching the Saints in the AFL and staying updated with all of Real Madrid’s matches from their European competitions. I also have a three-year-old nephew so teaching him how to hit a forehand is very enjoyable – particularly because it’s already better than mine.

Favourite tennis player/sporting athlete and why: My favourite athlete would have to be Usain Bolt. I was fortunate enough to be in the Olympic Stadium during the London 2012 Olympic Games on the finish line – a moment I’ll never forget. His achievements are supreme and his showmanship is captivating.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where and why: I would love to go to Japan. I can’t get enough of Japanese food. And I hear the locals are some of the most polite people in the world.

What superhero power would you like: Being able to fly would have its advantages, especially not having to deal with airport traffic and parking costs.

What is one interesting fact about you: I auditioned for So You Think You Can Dance Australia in 2009.

If you could change one thing about Melbourne, what would it be: I would love to change or improve public transportation. I’m jealous of other countries that have impeccable services and given how rapidly our population is growing this needs a lot more attention.
