Tennis Victoria is pleased to announce the launch of the new Get Into Cardio Tennis season for 2016. Get into Cardio Tennis is Tennis, just not as you know it!

Run in parks and workplaces around the state, Get Into Cardio Tennis was launched in 2015 with the support of VicHealth’s ‘Changing the Game’ Campaign aimed at increasing participation rates of females in sport and activity.

The program has seen female participation expand significantly in the last year, with over 85% of participants new to the sport of tennis.

In an exciting promotion for the new season, Get Into Cardio Tennis is giving participants the opportunity to be on court at the Australian Open 2017.

“By simply registering for a session and purchasing a 5-Pass card, participants will go in the draw to win a once in a lifetime opportunity to be on the same court as all the stars,” said James Robortella, Get Into Cardio Tennis Program Coordinator.

In another expansion of the program, Get Into Cardio Tennis will now be offered to members and guests through YMCA Victoria’s Hawthorn Aquatic & Leisure Centre and Brunswick Baths.

“Get Into Cardio Tennis has been able to make a large impact in activating “green spaces” around many local council sites across the Melbourne CBD, suburban and regional areas and getting females from all backgrounds out in the sunshine to enjoy some tennis based activities in local Parks and ovals,” said Robortella.

“To date, nearly 500 people have experienced the Get Into Cardio Tennis Programs in locations across Victoria which will continue to increase over spring and summer.”

The Program will run across 19 locations around the state including Horsham, Bendigo and Geelong with planning already underway to launch in Shepparton and Warrnambool in November this year.

“The real beauty of the program is that is anyone can participate no matter their tennis experience or skill level, with the main emphasis on creating a social, fun and engaging session,” said Jo Narayan, new Get Into Cardio Tennis Deliverer at the Carlton Gardens.

Participants simply need to bring along their workout gear and a drink bottle to get involved, with all equipment and a qualified Deliverer provided. Get Into Cardio Tennis has a real focus on reducing the barriers people may face to participating in sport and aims to ensure getting more active can be achieved easily.

All participants receive their first session free. To book for one of 30 sessions across Victoria, simply register online at www.getintocardiotennis.com.au.
