1 December 2015 | Tennis Victoria

After six rounds of world class tennis played across two huge weekends, four Victorian teams have secured their place in the Asia-Pacific Tennis League (ATL) 2015 – South Conference semi-finals, to be played at Royal Park Tennis Club this Friday, 4 December. Live Stream the semi-finals here.

An exciting conclusion to the preliminary rounds in Yarrawonga at the weekend saw last year’s Conference winners the Kooyong Classics (men), men’s and women’s Royal South Yarras, and MCC Stars (women) finish on top of the Pool A League to secure a place in the semi-finals.

“Victoria is set for an interstate battle this weekend, as the competition for ATL finals spots hits top gear,” Tennis Victoria’s Competitions Manager Jeff Downes said.

“The strength of the Victorian teams on paper is extremely high, but as is the nature of the ATL with its shortened format, anything can happen and our clubs will have their work cut out to reach Sunday’s final at the National Tennis Centre.”

In the men’s league, the top placed Kooyong Classics led by Rubin Statham will go head-to-head with Pool B’s runners up the Western Wildlings (WA), while the Royal South Yarras who boast Australian number 10 Luke Saville, will be tested against the undefeated NETA Knights led by Brad Mousley from South Australia.

As the only team who remain undefeated, the dominant women’s Royal South Yarras spearheaded by Storm Sanders, Daria Gavrilova and Australian Open 2016 Wildcard recipient Tammi Patterson, come up against Pool B’s second placed Prospect Flames from South Australia.

Last year’s runners up MCC Stars will look to step up in the semis, led by Zoe Hives and Asia Muhammad (USA) the team will face tough competition in Jessica Moore’s Western Wildlings.

The ATL South Conference semi-finals will commence at 6.30pm this Friday, 4 December at the Royal Park Tennis Club.

Successful teams will then proceed to Sunday’s finals day, held at Melbourne Park on 6 December. The day will also feature more than 60 children taking part in the ANZ Tennis Hot Shots Leagues State Carnival from 9.30am.
