9 September 2015 | Tennis Victoria

After nearly 14 years on the Tennis Victoria Board, including 11 years as President, David Stobart has resigned – and we heartily acknowledge and thank him for his truly outstanding service to tennis in Victoria during this time.

David has seen significant changes to tennis in Victoria throughout his tenure and, at his last Board Meeting on 19 August, he reflected on his time.  He spoke openly saying that all that had been achieved was a result of great teamwork amongst the Board and staff and that he is humbled by the response to his resignation.

There have been many highlights during his leadership, but one of his greatest achievements was the joining of Tennis Victoria and the Victorian Country Tennis Association to work in partnership together.  This partnership has seen Country Week become the biggest grass court tournament in the Southern Hemisphere!

Key highlights of note that were acknowledged by the Board, include, but are not limited to:

  • The Tennis Victoria and the Victorian Country Tennis Association partnership;
  • The new affiliation model which has seen 105 new clubs affiliate with TV;
  • The implementation of Community Tennis Officers, now known as Participation Leaders.
  • Employing and working together with current CEO Matthew Kennedy and predecessor Ian Clark;
  • Governance reforms;
  • Moving into the AAMI Park offices.

David has served as the delegate to Tennis Australia in this time where he has represented Victoria proudly.

David expressed that he knows he has resigned at a time when tennis in Victoria is in a strong position, with fantastic growth clearly demonstrated by the 49% increase in registered participants in 2013/14 alone.  He leaves confident in the Board and the organisation to continue the great collective work.

We congratulate and express sincere appreciation to David for his terrific leadership and contribution to Tennis Victoria, and to the good of the sport across the state.
