The 34th Tankworld VCTA Country Week wrapped up a stunning week of tennis today on the grass courts of the Swan Hill Lawn Tennis Club, with over 1200 players competing across 102 permanent and temporary lawn courts.

The VCTA’s iconic duo Mrs Pat Gilchrist and Mrs Carol Pearce celebrated their 25th year running the event.

Tennis by day and social activities by night, players were not put off by the hot weather at the popular country week venue.

“It was an incredibly smooth week, where we completed full programs on all days except Wednesday, when for the first time in history we altered the match format for the safety of players in the extreme heat” said Mrs Gilchrist.

There were new champions in the A Grade competition, with Maryborough knocking off grass court specialists Tandara in the women’s, and Swan Hill narrowly defeated Mud Island in the men’s.

“Tennis Victoria is extremely proud to support the VCTA in the running of this fantastic event, which showcases the outstanding community spirit of country tennis in Victoria” said Belinda Kleverlaan, Tennis Victoria Executive Manager – Community Tennis.

Players have already begun their preparations for Country Week 2016 in Wodonga.
