5 July 2013 | Tennis Victoria

Tennis Victoria’s pilot MLC Tennis Hot Shots Competition League competitions have recently been completed. Approximately 80 children (aged from 6 to 10) across 11 affiliated clubs, participated in the new pilot competition over a 6 week period.

For the majority of participants, it was their first competition experience. For others, it was a step into club based competition tennis.

The competition was held in 3 separate Leagues of Monash, Boroondara & Moonee Valley and all were a great success. The 6 week competition concluded with all registered teams taking part in League finals, regardless of their final position on the ladder.

Riverside Golf & Tennis Centre hosted the 8/U & 10/U Moonee Valley League finals on Sunday 23 June. Nottinghill Pinewood TC hosted the 8/u Monash League finals on Sunday 23 June and East Camberwell TC hosted the 8/u Boroondara League finals on Friday 21 June.

The feedback on the competition format and experience from participants and their families has been very positive.  The pilot competition has also provided many important learnings to enhance these competitions for the future.

Tennis Victoria believe these competitions are a vital link to increase the number of juniors transitioning from coaching to play competition tennis.

We would like to thank all our affiliated clubs for their support of this competition pilot.

Tennis Victoria will be partnering with a select number of junior associations to roll out the MLC Tennis Hot Shots Competition format on a larger scale commencing in week 2 of Term 4 this year (weekend of 19 / 20 October 2013).
