Traralgon Tennis Association is set to host the Frank Sedgman Cup where aspiring 11&u players from across the state will be competing in a mixed team’s event. 

These players will be competing in singles and mixed doubles this week from Monday 29 June to Tuesday 30 June, representing their Metropolitan Associations or Country Regions to the best of their ability.

Tennis Victoria CEO, Kim Kachel highlighted the significance of the event.

“The Frank Sedgman Cup is where passion for the game really comes to life. You see young players competing hard, backing their teammates and embracing what it means to represent their region. 

Tennis Victoria is proud to keep creating opportunities like this across Victoria, and we thank the Traralgon Tennis Association and Latrobe City Council for bringing it to life.

Events like this are also bring great economic impact to the region which is great for the community.”

The event will see over 60 athletes across 7 Metropolitan Associations and 8 Country Regions, made possible by the support the Latrobe City Council

Latrobe City Mayor, Cr Sharon Gibson said on behalf of Latrobe City, she was delighted to welcome players, officials and visitors for the Frank Sedgman Cup to the region. 

“It’s so great to see young players given the opportunity to compete at such a high level, and for our community to share in their excitement and enthusiasm,” Cr Gibson said.

“Events like put a fire in the belly for the next generation who see the possibility for themselves being the next Wimbledon winner.  It also gives families and visitors the chance to see why we love Latrobe City with our welcoming community.”

“We are proud and honoured to play a part in creating these memories and opportunities for the next generation.” 

The event will allow players to represent their association or region and enjoy a weekend of competitive playing opportunities in singles and mixed doubles, with one team to be crowned the winner of the Frank Sedgman Cup. The Greater Gippsland Region is well represented with a Central Gippsland & East Gippsland team participating over the weekend.
