Swan Hill VIC 3585, Australia, 12 February 2018 | Tennis Victoria

Tennis Victoria today announced the inaugural members of the Country Week Legends.

Against the back drop of 100 lawn tennis courts in action, Tennis Victoria General Manager Tennis Operations, Nick Hinneberg announced the six legends of Country Week.

Commending the players for their embodiment of the spirit of Country Week, their many years of participation and their significant contribution to the event, the Legends were presented with their Legends Cap and framed certificate.

The 2018 Country Week Legends are:

Brenda Bishop of Sunbury
Brenda has been a regular at Country Week for over 25 years. She is an integral member of the Sunbury Ladybirds team and even has recorded the score of every Country Week match she has played.

Robyn Darby of Macedon
Robyn has participated at Country Week for over 25 years. Robyn has also recruited many new players to join the Country Week community. Everyone who knows Robyn knows she is a wonderful sports person, always encouraging her team mates and players from other teams as well.

Pat Flynn of Wangaratta
Pat Flynn has been playing Country Week since 1962. A legend of tennis, he won the Premiership in 1980 and was runners up 6 times between 1997 – 2011. He has recorded all the names of people he’s played with at Country Week and its well over 50.

Trevor Holt from Swan Hill
Trevor has played in every Country Week since 1989 except for last year where he attended in preparation for this year’s event. In 1991 Trevor led a delegation from Swan Hill to request for Country Week to be hosted at Swan Hill. Since then, the tournament has visited this club 16 times. Trevor has been instrumental in the success of Country Week at Swan Hill and is very deserving of Legendary status.

Norma Sim of Wonthaggi
Norma Sim has been attending Country Week since it was played back at Kooyong Lawn. Her ‘tap’ drop shot at the net is legendary. I’m told Norma is the life of the party, she enjoys her nights out to the fullest.

Dawn Whykes of Buninyong
Dawn first played Country Week back in 1991 under Tongala. She once managed to play with her daughter Melissa and grand daughter Sarah. Dawn still comes to Country Week every year supporting the Buninyong players and any other teams she knows.

A special addition to the day was the announcement by the Swan Hill Lawn Tennis Club in naming their new Pavilion the Holt Pavilion in honour of the contribution that Trevor Holt and the Holt family have made to the club.
